# Signals: hiring and funding filters for a Play

The two company signals a PumpGTM Play can use today: an open job posting for a role you name, and the investors or accelerators behind the company. How each works in the app and over MCP.

A signal is a reason to reach a company now instead of later. PumpGTM treats a signal as a fact about the company , then finds the right people at that company with the rest of your Play (titles, location, size). The signal never replaces the people targeting. It narrows which companies those people can work at.

Two signals are live today:

Signal What it checks App field MCP field

Hiring The company has an open job posting for one of your roles Company is hiring for + Job posted within currentCompanyHiringRolesAny , currentCompanyHiringPostedWithinDays

Funding The company is backed by one of your investors or accelerators Backed by currentCompanyInvestorsAny

## Hiring: companies with an open role

You name one or more roles, for example Head of Growth, Sales Development Representative . PumpGTM reads recent job postings, keeps the companies with a matching opening, and only returns people who work at one of those companies.

How a posting counts as a match:

- Every word of one role phrase must be in the job title. Head of Growth matches "Head of Growth & Marketing" but not "Growth Marketing Manager". Write the roles the way companies title the job.

- Recency. The posting must be newer than your window. The app offers 7, 14, 30, 60 or 90 days (default 30). Over MCP any value from 1 to 365 works.

- Country. If every location in your Play is the United States, only US postings count. Otherwise postings from anywhere count.

- Evidence. Each company carries the job title, posting link and date that proved it (up to five per company), so you and your AI agent can see why it is in the list and reference the role in a message.

- Fresh companies on refill. When a Play refills, companies it already worked are skipped so each run reaches new ones.

The hiring role is about the company, not the person. To reach the founder of a company hiring its first SDR, put Founder, CEO in Who do you want to find? and Sales Development Representative in Company is hiring for . Putting SDR in both would find SDRs.

### In the app

Open Plays , choose New Play , then Companies hiring . It starts with founders and marketing leaders at companies hiring for growth and sales roles. Change the roles and window, run it, and review the people it finds. Any cold Play (LinkedIn, email, X or multi-channel) has the same Company is hiring for field.

### Over MCP

Pass the fields to find_people . Without confirmed: true it saves the Play and returns a targeting summary to confirm; with it, the Play runs.

{
"targeting" : {
"name" : "Founders at companies hiring for growth" ,
"candidateCount" : 50 ,
"hardFilters" : {
"currentTitleIncludesAny" : [ "Founder" , "CEO" , "VP Marketing" ],
"personCountriesAny" : [ "United States" ],
"currentCompanyHeadcount" : { "maximum" : 200 },
"currentCompanyHiringRolesAny" : [ "Head of Growth" , "Sales Development Representative" ],
"currentCompanyHiringPostedWithinDays" : 30
}
},
"confirmed" : false
}

If no company has a matching posting in the window, the run stops and says so instead of returning people who are not at hiring companies. Widen the window or add role phrases.

## Funding: companies backed by an investor

You name investors or accelerators, for example Y Combinator, Andreessen Horowitz . PumpGTM starts from the companies those investors back, then finds your people there. Common short names are understood: YC becomes Y Combinator, a16z becomes Andreessen Horowitz. For anything else, use the investor's full name as it appears on the company's funding record.

In the app this is the Backed by field on a cold Play. Over MCP it is currentCompanyInvestorsAny :

{
"targeting" : {
"name" : "Sales leaders at YC companies" ,
"candidateCount" : 50 ,
"hardFilters" : {
"currentTitleIncludesAny" : [ "Founder" , "Head of Sales" ],
"currentCompanyInvestorsAny" : [ "Y Combinator" ]
}
},
"confirmed" : false
}

What the funding filter does not do yet: it cannot filter by round (Seed, Series A), by amount raised, or by how recently the company raised. It answers "who backs this company", not "who raised last month".

## Combining signals

Signals stack with each other and with every other targeting field. A Play for founders at YC companies under 50 people that are hiring their first account executive in the last 14 days is one Play:

{
"targeting" : {
"name" : "YC founders hiring their first AE" ,
"candidateCount" : 50 ,
"hardFilters" : {
"currentTitleIncludesAny" : [ "Founder" , "CEO" ],
"currentCompanyHeadcount" : { "maximum" : 50 },
"currentCompanyInvestorsAny" : [ "Y Combinator" ],
"currentCompanyHiringRolesAny" : [ "Account Executive" ],
"currentCompanyHiringPostedWithinDays" : 14
}
},
"confirmed" : false
}

Every added signal shrinks the pool. Start with one, check the targeting summary, then add the second.

## Questions people ask

Does the hiring signal work with email and X, or only LinkedIn? It works on every cold Play: LinkedIn, email, X and multi-channel. The signal chooses the companies; the channel decides how you reach the people.

Can I see which job posting put a company in the list? Yes. Each company keeps the job title, link and posting date that matched, up to five postings per company.

Why did my hiring Play find nobody? Usually the role phrase is worded differently from real job titles, or the window is short. Every word of the phrase must be in the title, so Head of Demand Gen misses "Director, Demand Generation". Add the common title forms and widen the window to 30 or 60 days.

Can I target companies that just raised a round? Not yet. The funding filter matches investors behind the company, not the round, amount or date. Pair it with a hiring signal to find backed companies that are actively growing.
